Genres for Students of Engineering

During the discussions, the committee created a list of genres thought to be particularly relevant to students of engineering. Information about relevant sites was collected, with the intent of suggesting possible tasks appropriate to the genre and topic. Although this work was done prior to a more explicit action-oriented approach, the terms “task” or “real-world task” were used with the understanding that classroom tasks would be interactive, engaging, and relevant to the learners current and/or future contexts. In some cases, “scenarios” are suggested. 

There was also the intent to provide sites that would provide some sort of  “scaffolding,” with the understanding that students may need support in the target genre or language in order to complete a task.
