Welcome to the first EPIC podcast. We start off our series with a look at the history of the study of English in higher education and how conceptions and practices are changing as a result of internationalisation.

The EPIC podcast is a series  that will explore the topic of English language teaching and learning at the tertiary level in Israel. We will begin with some historical background  to situate shift from English for academic purposes to English for the purposes of international communication. Against this backdrop each podcast will focus on a different aspect related to language learning and language learning pedagogy, including topics such as the use of multiple languages in the classroom,  reaching and teaching diverse learner populations,  the place of AI in language instruction, to name a few. Our topics will be explored by guest experts and practicing teachers from the field.

The Journal of English for Purposes of International Communication is an international online peer-reviewed journal that focuses on diverse aspects of teaching English to learners so they can meet current challenges of communication in today’s global world. The journal publishes original research, innovative intervention programs, shares good practice, presents position papers and current reviews in the field.

JEPIC is published by the Higher Education in Israel Network of English Teachers (H-INET). Our open-access publication invites scholars and practitioners from all related disciplines to engage with relevant issues in research and practice and to enhance knowledge in the field.

In our collective endeavors to explore diverse pedagogies, we invite contributions to our 7th annual international conference that investigate our role as language professionals in guiding students through the challenges of their interconnected world, cultivating proficient, self-aware communicators.

The English language classroom is a dynamic space for integrated learning. We encourage abstract submission proposing approaches and activities, including the implementation of CEFR, mediation techniques, virtual exchange programs, the harnessing of AI technologies, task-based learning methodologies, and beyond. Your contributions can help position us as language professionals to make language education more pertinent and impactful than ever.
